We often keep complaining about the lack of time for completing a project and always keep asking for an extension. Since it’s practically impossible to get an extension each time, we need to manage our day such that there’s scope for making the most of our days.

1. Decide your priorities.
Before you start working on anything, it’s necessary to know what your priorities are. Instead of wasting time handling things that can wait and ignoring what needs to be done urgently, decide your priorities ahead of time. Before you start chalking out a plan for the day, you should know what needs to be done.
2. Plan it right.
Planning is the most important step that will help ensure that you make the most of your day. Once you have a clear idea about your priorities, switch on your planning mode and make an extensive list of steps to facilitate your actions. This way, you’ll not waste time thinking what should be done next, as you’ll have a clear idea of what your next step is going to be.
3. Don’t over-commit.
This is the biggest mistake that most of us make on a daily basis. We overestimate ourselves and say yes to anything and everything. Whether you do it to impress your boss or yourself; over-committing to things is bad. It not only stresses you out, but it also interferes with your regular routine.
4. Delegate tasks.
Don’t try to do everything on your own. Attempting to be a one man army won’t increase your productivity. On the contrary, it will reduce your efficiency. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of your team members and assign work accordingly. It will not only help improve the quality of work, but it will also significantly reduce the time required for each task.
5. Don’t multitask.
Although multitasking looks like the perfect way of handling a couple of tasks at a time, it isn’t good for your productivity. Focus on one task at a time, finish it and then start working on the next one. It will significantly reduce the chances of errors and will also help you finish earlier than usual.
6. Take enough breaks.
Breaks give you the perfect time to relax and unwind from all the worries of work. Taking a couple of breaks throughout the day is far better than getting bored of work and making mistakes. Since you’re no machine, you need time to relax before you start working on something else; breaks provide you the perfect opportunity for that.
7. Watch your diet.
If your diet is mainly composed of junk that’s rich in sugar and fat content, you’re more likely to feel lethargic and sleepy throughout the day. So, instead of mindlessly binging on unhealthy snacks, switch to some healthier options. It will help you stay fresh and active throughout the day, thus increasing your productivity.
8. Stay focused.
Minimize the distractions around you and try to stay focused on your work. If it takes some loud music or noise cancelation headphones to cut off the noise around you, use them. A clutter-free work desk is a great way of ensuring that nothing distracts you from work.
9. Do something that makes you happy.
Your productivity is directly related to your happiness. If you’re unhappy, you can’t focus and hence your productivity declines. Make it a point to do one small thing every day that makes you happy. It could be anything from listening to your favorite song, eating your favorite cupcake or helping someone in need.
